Locating the area on the Atlas of France
Firstly locate Tours and Poitiers in the North West of France.
Look South below Poitiers following the N10 road to Ruffec and trace the D470 East through Champagne Mouton to Alloue. The cottage is about 2km from the village.

route map

From Caen (Ouistreham): 5 hours.
Ouistreham to Caen and then via Alencon, Le Mans, Tours, Poitiers and then on the D741 via Gencay to Confolens and cutting across country to Alloue.

From Le Havre: 5 hours.
Exit Le Havre and then cross over the spectacular new Pont de Normandie (toll) and take the D180 towards Bernay to join the toll motorway from Rouen down to the south of Le Mans, Tours and Poitiers.

From Cherbourg: 6.5 hours.
Follow the N13 south to Caen and then go anticlockwise around the ring road following the signs to Alencon. Its dual carriageway most of the way to Falaise. For a slower but very pretty route try St. Lo, Vire, Flers and Alencon. Then pick up the suggested route from Caen.

From St Malo: 5 hours.
Follow the signs to Rennes then Nantes, Niort and via the D948 to Melle, Civray and then across country. A good stop off here is to the west of Niort in the beautiful "Green Venice" area of narrow tree covered waterways.
An alternative is via Rennes to Le Mans, Tours and then Poitiers.

From Calais/Boulogne: 8 hours.
There are two main routes, via Amiens, Paris and Orleans to Tours and via Rouen and the new motorway to Le Mans and on to Tours and Poitiers.
