Rail Air and Tunnel Information.

Alloue is an easy drive from the airports of Poitiers (50minutes) with Limoges (1.5 hrs), La Rochelle (2 hours), Bordeaux (2.5 hrs) and is about a two and a half hour drive away from Bergerac airport through the wonderful Peregord region of France. The low cost routes do offer exeptional value for money but can be subject to change and are very seasonal so please check the websites for the current availability.

The carriers include Ryanair into La Rochelle, Limoges, Tours and Poitiers, FlyBe into La Rochelle, Bordeaux and Bergerac with British Airways flying into Bordeaux.

Its a fairly long drive from Northern France but quite easy on the tolled roads via Rouen, Alencon and Le Mans. There is also the option of site-seeing and shopping in Paris or visiting the theme parks and then taking the Poitiers tolled motorway. Eurotunnel operate the drive-on drive-off shuttle service in the Channel Tunnel.

France has an extremely good rail system with the cross channel Eurostar service connecting from Waterloo to the French TGV high speed trains system to Lille. You then take a TGV train down to Poitiers or Angouleme. A hire car would then be needed as the area is very rural and both main stations are about an hours drive from Le Breuil.

The nearest local station is Ruffec mid way between the two which the TGV goes through but is only served by a local connection. Please use this SNCF link to find out train schedules.

A cycling holiday based on this route would be very feasable as its about 30 kilometres (19 miles) from Ruffec station to the house and the roads are very suitable for touring.
