Travelling with your car by ferry from the UK is possible via a number of routes which mainly consist of those on the eastern channel from Dover and the western channel from Hampshire and Dorset. Companies operating on the western channel are Condor ferries, LD Lines and Brittany ferries.
Condor Ferries operate May to October with a fast ferry service from Weymouth and Poole to St Malo via Gurnsey and Jersey and have a conventional ferry serving the Channel Islands. They also operate a fastcat on behalf of Brittany Ferries from Poole to Cherbourg. They also operate on Sundays with a conventional ferry from May to September from Portsmouth to Cherbourg. LD Lines, a French company who also operate in the Mediterranean, ferry between Portsmouth and Le Havre which is about 5 and a half hours away from the cottage. LD Lines are on 0870 428 4335 and via this link.
Brittany Ferries are the final western channel company operating into St Malo overnight from Portsmouth and into Ouistreham near Caen. You can also travel with the same company from Poole into Cherbourg (operated by Condor). Caen is a 5 hour drive to the house.
The fast ferry operated by Condor for Brittany from Poole to Cherbourg is in the summer months.
For those living in South East England and travelling from Dover there is an excellent fastcraft service operated all year by Speedferries who sail from to Boulogne. They have a very sensible pricing policy and book only by internet. This link takes you to their site.
Other companies operate out of Dover and these include P&O (Dover-Calais)
Ferries. SeaFrance (Dover-Calais) Ferries
